Designer skinny jeans are now a Wardrobe Staple. (As every fashionista knows, Wardrobe Staple comes above New Season Must-Have but below Design Classic in the wearability stakes). Skinny designer jeans NEVER go out of fashion (okay, not strictly true. How many of us, after years in our lovely dress-up/dress-down designer bootcuts, saw Kate Moss parade her new designer skinny jeans all those years ago and thought “she’s gone too far now… they’ll never take off”) but as with all new designer trends now we can’t understand how we managed without our designer skinny jeans. Even fat* (in designer fashion terms) people like me.

And as for designer bootcuts… you know, I can’t believe I ever actually wore them. (Which is usually a sure sign they’ll be on everyone for A/W 2010).

And skinny designer jeans are still going strong - it doesn’t matter how many times we’re told that this season it’s designer snow wash jeans, or designer floral jeggings, when you know you want to make a fashion impression and be comfortable in what you’re wearing, designer skinny jeans always fit the bill. Just make sure you wear your designer skinny jeans with some sexy heels and a boyfriend blazer or something sharp shouldered, or blaze a trail with the new denim-with-denim look (though avoid denim-with-denim-with-denim, that’s just too… S/S 2011). Whatever you do, avoid wearing with fake Uggs and a market-stall “homage” Burberry jacket unless you’re channelling Whitney from Eastenders. (I see it now for A/W 2012, “Whitney chic”.)
