Best foot forward with Stella Mccartney nautical sandals

These gorgeous nautical sandals from Stella McCartney are the perfect antitdote to Christmas with a reminder that Spring is just around the corner. They are called nautical (they do have boats and seagulls on them, after all), though to most of us they will probably just be “those lovely red, white and blue shiny shoes”.

The wooden heel is 4.5″ and there is a 1″ platform. They have a peep toe but it is tiny (literally, by the looks of things so you can peep one toe only) so you can at least get away with the quickest pedicure on the planet if you are in a rush - just paint your one visible toenail and away you go.

According to Net a Porter the sizing is on the large side so you can go down a half-size when ordering. Sadly several sizes are already sold out including the larger ones (so no use to me as a size 8, which is sad as my huge feet have been likened to boats in the past. I don’t get too upset though - I am just pleased to be size 8 in something).

I’m not sure how much use they’d be on a boat, you’d either puncture your rubber dingy, or lose your balance and fall over the side of your sailing boat. They would certainly look glam on some Saint Tropez-moored superyacht, though I always imagine billionaire “have-yachts” might be of the rather precious “take your shoes off before coming on our boat, those heels are damaging our real wood floors” variety.

Still, when was nautical fashion ever about practicalities? If it was we’d have Vivienne Westwood designing corsetted life jackets, and a Conran life boat.
