The White Company - history

The White Company was opened as a mail order catalogue business in 1994 by Chrissie Rucker (who was previously assistant health and beauty editor on Harpers and Queen, now Harper’s Bazaar, magazine), with help from her sister and her now-husband Nick Wheeler (who set up online men’s clothing retailer Charles Tyrrwhit).

Rucker founded the White Company when she, family and friends found that when stocking their new houses they couldn’t find decent ranges of all-white soft furnishings and homewares. The all-white linens, towels and accessories they wanted were either low quality or at the very expensive, designer end.

The White Company therefore aims to provide all-white and other home products of fantastic quality, at great value for money, all combined with excellent customer service.

The first White Company shop opened in 2001, in Chelsea in London. Now there are 18 White Company shops - plus four in-instore concessions, and two Dubai franchises. There are also now two standalone Little White Company shops.

The White Company now produces eight White Company brochures a year for its 450,000 customers.
